Sun 15th Jun, 2025

Konstanz experienced a significant emergency response on the evening of June 14, 2025, following a fire that broke out in a basement on Maria-Ellenrieder-Straße. The incident prompted a swift reaction from local firefighting units, with the Hauptamtliche Wache and Altstadt departments dispatched at 7:23 PM.

Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed the presence of the fire while ensuring that all residents had evacuated safely. As a precaution, two neighboring residential buildings were also evacuated to safeguard their occupants.

Firefighting crews entered the basement equipped with breathing apparatuses, while additional teams searched the stairwells and apartments for any remaining individuals. Due to the smoke spreading to an adjacent structure, the Petershausen department was called in with two fire trucks to assist in controlling the situation.

Throughout the operation, further support was provided by the Allmannsdorf department and off-duty personnel from the Hauptamtliche Wache, who helped maintain fire watch. The city's utility services swiftly disconnected electricity and gas supplies to the affected buildings to prevent additional hazards.

After approximately 90 minutes of active fighting, the fire was successfully extinguished. Firefighters then ventilated the impacted buildings thoroughly and transported the burned materials out of the basement to ensure safety. The emergency response team conducted checks for harmful carbon monoxide levels to confirm that the premises were safe for the residents.

Ultimately, the situation took about three hours to resolve. However, due to infrastructural damage, the affected building has been declared uninhabitable. Residents have been temporarily relocated to city emergency shelters or are staying with friends and family. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported during this incident. The Konstanz police department has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
